ASTM A36 Steel & Metal Structures: Design, Fabrication for Buildings, Warehouses & Infrastructure
High-Rise and Commercial Buildings:Skyscraper and commercial building construction have been greatly enabled by the strong, yet lightweight, nature of steel. This is also why they can be built so quickly and why their designs are so easily changed.
Industrial and Warehouse Complexes:Steel structures provide warehouses, workshops, factories and mold shops with their strong sturdy framework.
Bridges and Transport Infrastructure: The high load bearing capacity of steel makes it a key component used in engineering bridges, overpasses, flyovers and terminals for safety and durability.
Energy and Utility Installations: Steel supports power plants, wind farms, oil and gas fields and other energy systems, as well as utilities, providing enduring protection against the elements and fatigue.
Sports, Entertainment and Exhibition Halls, Arenas and stadiums, are all made possible by the lack of interior columns afforded by steel a material which can span for large distance.
Agricultural and Storage Buildings: Steel frame barns, silos, greenhouses, and storage buildings are as durable as they are resistant to rust and weathering.
Marine, Port and Waterfront Infrastructure: Steel frameworks are ideal for construction at sea, especially in ports, docks, piers and harbor complexes where strength, corrosion resistance and heavy loading capacity are non-negotiable.
Core steel structure products for factory construction
1. Main load-bearing structure (adaptable to tropical seismic requirements)
| Product Type | Specification Range | Core Function | Central America Adaptation Points |
| Portal Frame Beam | W12×30 ~ W16×45 (ASTM A572 Gr.50) | Main beam for roof/wall load-bearing | High-seismic node design with bolted connections to avoid brittle welds, section has been optimized to reduce self-weight for local transport |
| Steel Column | H300×300 ~ H500×500 (ASTM A36) | Supports frame and floor loads | Base embedded seismic connectors, hot-dip galvanized finish (zinc coating ≥85μm) for high humidity environment |
| Crane Beam | W24×76 ~ W30×99 (ASTM A572 Gr.60) | Load-bearing for industrial crane operation | Heavy duty design (for 5~20t cranes) with end beam fitted with shear resistant connecting plates |
2. Sections of the Enclosure System (Weather Resistance + Corrosion Protection)
Roof Purlins: Hot-dip galvanized C12×20 to C16×31 purlins spaced at 1.5–2 m for supporting color-coated steel sheets capable of resisting typhoon load up to 12 level.
Wall Purlins: Anti-corrosive painted Z10×20 to Z14×26 purlins with ventilation holes to lower humidity—perfect for tropical factory surroundings.
Bracing & Corner Braces: Φ12–Φ16 hot dip galvanized round steel bracing with L50×5 steel angle corner braces acts as a deterrent against wind speeds of 150 mph to provide lateral stability.
3. Local Adaptation: Support and Ancillary Products (Local Variation on Construction Demands)
Embedded Steel Component: Galvanized steel plates of 10–20 mm-thickness (WLHT) commonly used in concrete foundation in Central America.
Connectors: Grade 8.8 high-strength hot-dip galvanized bolts, no need of welding on site, which shortens the construction time.
Protective Coatings: Water-based flame retardant paint with fire resistance duration ≥1.5 h and acryl anti-corrosion paint with UV resistance and lifetime ≥10 years, which meets local environmental policies.
| Processing Method | Processing Machines | Processing |
| Cutting | CNC plasma/flame cutting machines, shearing machines | Plasma flame cutting for steel plates/sections, shearing for thin steel plates, with dimensional accuracy is controlled. |
| Forming | Cold bending machine, press brake, rolling machine | Cold bending (for c/z purlins), bending (for gutters/edge trimming), rolling (for round support bars) |
| Welding | Submerged arc welding machine, manual arc welder, CO₂ gas-shielded welder | Submerged arc welding (Dutch columns / H beams), stick weld (gusset plates), CO² gas shielded welding (thin walled items) |
| Holemaking | CNC drilling machine, punching machine | CNC Boring (bolt holes in connecting plates/components), Punching (batch small holes), With controlled holes diameter/position tolerances |
| Treatment | Shot blasting/sand blasting machine, grinder, hot-dip galvanizing line | Rust removal (shot blasting / sand blasting), weld grinding (deburr), hot-dip galvanizing (bolt/support) |
| Assembly | Assembly platform, measuring fixtures | The components of pre-assembled (column + beam + base) were disassembled for shipping after dimension verification. |
| 1. Salt spray test (core corrosion test) | 2. Adhesion test | 3. Humidity and heat resistance test |
| Standards ASTM B117 (neutral salt spray) / ISO 11997-1 (cyclic salt spray), suitable for the high-salt environment of the Central American coast. | Cross-hatch test using ASTM D3359 (cross-hatch/grid-grid, to determine peeling level); pull-off test using ASTM D4541 (to measure peel strength between coating and steel substrate). | Standards ASTM D2247 (40℃/95% humidity, to prevent blistering and cracking of the coating during rainy seasons). |
| 4. UV aging test | 5. Film thickness test | 6. Impact strength test |
| Standards ASTM G154 (to simulate strong UV exposure in rainforests, to prevent fading and chalking of the coating). | Dry film using ASTM D7091 (magnetic thickness gauge); wet film using ASTM D1212 (to ensure corrosion resistance meets specified thickness). | Standards ASTM D2794 (drop hammer impact, to prevent damage during transportation/installation). |
Treatment on surface Display: Epoxy zinc-rich coating, Galvanized(hot dip galvanized layer thickness≥85μm service life can reach 15-20 years), black oiled, etc.

Packaging:
Steel goods are well-packaged for surface protection and they retain the shape forming of the product during handling and transportation. Parts are generally wrapped in water-proof materials like plastic film or anti-rust paper, and the small accessories are in wooden box. When fully labeled you can rest assured that your unloading is safe and that your installation on site is professional and undamaged. Good packaging can prevent damage, also can make for easy inventory and installation for building projects.
Transportation:
Size and destination determine whether steel structures are evenly spaced or stacked hollow load at 4 m intervals or crisscrass 2 m intervals steel containers or bulk shipping. Straps of steel are added around the large or heavy items for support and wooden rests are placed on the four sides of the packaging to enclose the load. All logistics processes are handled in accordance with what the international shipping procedures dictate so as to have them delivered on time and securely even across the seas or long distances. This conservative approach results in steel being delivered to site on the best possible condition for immediate use.

About material quality issues
Q: Standards compliance What are the standards applicable in your steel structures?
A: Our steel structure complies with the American Standards such as ASTM A36,ASTM A572 etc. for example: ASTM A36 is a general purpose carbon structural, A588 is a high – weather – resistanc structural suitable to be used in severe atmospherics.
Q: How do you control the quality of steel?
A: The steel materials are from the well-known domestic or international steel mills which has strict quality control system. When they arrived, the products are all tested rigorously, including the chemical composition analysis, the mechanical properties testing and the nondestructive testing, such as the ultrasonic testing (UT) and magnetic particle testing (MPT), to check if the quality meets with related standards.
