API 5L pipe is a type of carbon steel pipe which is widely used in oil and gas industry for transmission services. And for other fluids (not oil and gas) steam, water and mud etc.
The API 5L standard includes both welded and seamless steel pipes.
Common Welded Pipe Types
| Type | Description | Typical Diameter |
| ERW | Electric Resistance Welded | Less than 24 inches |
| DSAW / SAW | Double-sided or Submerged Arc Welded | Larger diameters, alternative to ERW |
| LSAW | Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded (JCOE process) | Up to 48 inches |
| SSAW / HSAW | Spiral or Helical Submerged Arc Welded | Up to 100 inches |
Seamless pipes are also available for applications requiring higher pressure or corrosion resistance.
Seamless Pipe Types: Hot-rolled Seamless Pipe and Cold-rolled Seamless Pipe
Seamless pipe is typically used for small diameter pipes (typically less than 24 inches).
(Seamless steel pipe is more commonly used than welded pipe for pipe diameters less than 150 mm (6 inches).
We also supply big-size seamless pipes. By hot-rolled process, seamless pipe can be produced with the maximum size 20inches(508mm) in diameter. For diameters over 20 inches, we use a hot-expended process which allows us to manufacture seamless pipes up to 40 inches (1016 mm) in diameter, delivering high-quality pipes with accurate dimensions and good performance to meet your project requirements.
API 5L covers Grade B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, and X80.
API 5L steel pipes specification are produced in different grades such as Grade B, X42, X46, X52, X56, X60, X65, X70, X80. The requirements for higher steel grades are more stringent on the carbon equivalent and the higher mechanical properties are needed to satisfy the more severe pipeline applications.
Furthermore, the chemical makeup of seamless and welded API 5L pipes of the same grade of steel is not the same. Welded pipe have also more demanding requirements in terms of maximum carbon and sulfur content to guarantee better weldability and good performance also in high pressure.

Note: For PSL2 grades, the suffix (R, N, Q, or M) is an integral part of the steel grade designation.
PSL stands for Product Specification Level, which includes PSL1 and PSL2. It can also be understood as a quality grade.
PSL1 and PSL2 differ not only in testing requirements but also in chemical composition and mechanical properties.
PSL2 has stricter requirements than PSL1 in terms of chemical composition, tensile properties, impact test, non-destructive testing, etc.
Impact Testing
PSL1 does not require impact testing, while PSL2 (except X80) does.
Non-destructive Testing
PSL1 does not require non-destructive testing, while PSL2 does.
(Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): API 5L pipes are subjected to radiographic, ultrasonic or other means of non-destructive testing to identify flaws and confirm the integrity of material without affecting the pipe.)
Packing & Delivery of API 5L Steel Pipes
1.Standard Packaging: In case of bundled with steel wire, strong and tight.
2.Alternative Packaging: Rust proof or special packing can be offered on your demand.
Note:
1.Avoid pipe undergoing shock, extrusion, cut during transportation, storage and handling.
2.Observe the precautions for carbon steel pipe to keep away from fire, explosion, and poisoning accidents.
3.Do not expose the cell to high temperature or corrosive agent ( if you need to under such condition, please choose high temperature resistant or corrosion resistant pipe ).
4.Select pipes materials, and specifications suitable for ambient,sMedium, Pressure and temperature.
5.Do the necessary inspections and tests prior to use for conformity to quality.
Transportation: Express (Sample Delivery), Air, Rail, Land, Sea shipping (FCL or LCL or Bulk)
