Stainless Steel Coil Surface Finish

Through different processing methods of cold rolling and surface reprocessing after rolling, the surface finish of 201 stainless steel coils can have different types.

The surface processing of stainless steel coils have NO.1, 2B, No. 4, HL, No. 6, No. 8, BA, TR hard, Rerolled bright 2H, polishing bright and other surface finishes, etc.

1. No.1 Finish: This finish is made of hot-rolled stainless steel with a specific roughness and dullness. It is the most commonly used finish and has a rougher appearance.

2. 2B Finish: This is a smooth reflective finish achieved by cold rolled stainless steel. 2B finishing is the most widely used stainless steel surface finishing.

3. BA Finish: This finish has a highly reflective, mirror-like appearance. It is achieved by polishing stainless steel with finer and finer abrasives until a highly polished surface is achieved.

4. No.4 Finish: This finish has a brushed or satin-like appearance, achieved by creating a unidirectional brushed pattern on the surface of the stainless steel.

5. No.8 Polish: This is the most reflective and mirror-like finish available, achieved by polishing stainless steel with a very fine abrasive until the surface is highly reflective.

Process of Production

The production process of stainless steel coil usually involves several stages, including:

1. Melting: The production process begins with the melting of raw materials such as iron, nickel, chromium, etc. in a furnace.

2. Forming: Cast molten steel into rectangular molds or steel ingots, and then roll them into flat plates or coils.

3. Annealing: The stainless steel sheet or coil is then annealed, or heated and cooled in a controlled environment, to relieve any stress and increase the strength and ductility of the metal.

4. Cold rolling: The stainless steel is then cold rolled, or passed through a series of rolls, to reduce its thickness and improve its surface finish.

5. Annealing and pickling: stainless steel is then annealed and pickled, or treated with acid solution to remove surface impurities and improve corrosion resistance.

6. Finishing: The stainless steel coil is then cut to size and subjected to different surface treatments such as polishing, grinding or coating.

7. Quality Control: Throughout the production process, stainless steel coils are inspected and tested to ensure they meet strength, corrosion resistance and surface finish requirements.
