1. What is AS/NZS 1163 C350L0 steel tube?
C350L0 is the grade most often specified for structural tube in Australia and New Zealand. It's a hollow section (round, square or rectangular) made to AS/NZS 1163, with a guaranteed minimum yield strength of 350 MPa and a tensile strength of 430 MPa. If you're building anything load-bearing from steel tube, this is what engineers usually write into the spec.
2. Is C350L0 suitable for outdoor applications?
On its own, no. Bare steel rusts. Hot-dip galvanize it (per AS/NZS 4680) and C350L0 is a common sight outdoors across Australia and New Zealand: fence posts, solar mounting frames, handrails. The zinc coat handles the weather; the grade handles the load.
3. What is the difference between C350L0 and standard carbon steel pipes?
The difference is what the standard guarantees. C350L0 is a structural grade: yield strength specified at 350 MPa minimum, and the L0 suffix adds a 0°C Charpy impact test requirement. A general-purpose pipe (say AS 1074) is specified for moving water or gas, not for being welded into a frame. You wouldn't build a column out of a water line, and you wouldn't run gas through a structural tube.
4. Can Royal Steel Group supply galvanized C350L0 tubes?
Yes. We supply C350L0 in black and hot-dip galvanized, in round, square and rectangular sections, and in the lengths and wall thicknesses your project calls for. Every order ships with the mill test certificate, traceable to AS/NZS 1163. Send us your sizes and we'll come back with a quote.
5. What industries use C350L0 structural tubes?
Broadly, any project that gets built from steel tube in Australia or New Zealand. The ones that come up most in our enquiries: steel construction, infrastructure, solar mounting systems, industrial fabrication, agricultural structures. If you're welding a frame, there's probably a C350L0 in it.
